Shar-Peis have an active, friendly and playful character, but they can also be pretty dominant. They are vigilant and decided to jump into the breach if needed. They are not aggressive or overattentive. They make a calm, restrained and balanced impression. They bark little. Shar-Peis are generally friendly to people they do not know. They are generally good with children and if they are well socialized, they can live harmoniously with cats. Dogs can sometimes pose a problem because Shar-Peis are combative.
The shoulder height is approximately 48 to 58 cm. The weight is between 18 and 29 kg. Shar-Pei means ‘skin of sand’. The fur is very short, hard, has a bristly structure and no under fur. The Shar-Pei has many wrinkles on the entire body at a young age. The wrinkles must be regularly checked and cleaned if necessary.
